Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (VMI) was launched in July 2009 by actor Vijay as a social welfare organization to consolidate his fan base into a structured philanthropic platform.
The movement actively conducts essential public service initiatives, including blood donation drives, educational scholarship distributions, free evening tuition centers, and disaster relief aid across Tamil Nadu.
Beyond immediate charity, VMI built a grassroots local network that served as the foundational public-service stepping stone for Vijay's political movement.

Foundation: Actor Vijay formally launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on February 2, 2024, converting his grass-roots fan club network (Vijay Makkal Iyakkam) into an organized political party.
Ideology & Stance: Centered on secularism, social justice, and corruption-free governance, TVK positioned itself as an alternative to both regional giants (DMK/AIADMK) and national parties.
Political Transition: After unveiling the party flag, symbol, and manifesto, Vijay quit full-time acting to commit entirely to public service and lead the party's campaign.

Known for his charismatic screen presence, energetic dance moves, and versatile action-comedy roles, he has starred in massive blockbusters like Ghilli, Thupakki, and Leo.
Beyond his decade-spanning film career, Vijay recently founded his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a major transition from cinema to public service.

PLA. Jeganath Mishra is an Indian politician and businessman who serves as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Cumbum constituency in Tamil Nadu. He is a prominent political figure in the Theni district and a representative of Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Early Life & Career

Born on December 25, 1975, in Narayanathevanpatti near Cumbum, Mishra grew up in an agricultural family with a strong political background—his grandfather was a freedom fighter. Before entering mainstream politics full-time, he built a successful business career in gold, finance, and agriculture, employing thousands across the region.

Political Journey

Mishra initially founded the regional outfit Namadhu Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (NMMK) and engaged in community welfare, social activism, and organizing local communities across Tamil Nadu. Looking to align with a broader political vision, he merged his party and its cadres with the TVK under party chief Vijay.

Representing TVK from the Cumbum constituency, Mishra actively focuses on regional agricultural development, public infrastructure, and addressing local economic issues in the Cumbum valley and Theni region.
